Ligety said in a Facebook post that he injured his knee during a giant slalom run in Oberjoch, Germany. The U.S. Ski Team confirmed Ligety’s right knee injury, while medical director Kyle Wilkens said the 31-year-old skier would return to the U.S. for evaluation.

Ligety won gold in the giant slalom — his signature race — at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the 2011, 2013 and 2015 world championships. The Utah native also won gold in the combined in 2006.
